Spicy Italian Seasoning Blend

I’m just branching out into the world of homemade spice blends.  I love the idea of making everything myself from scratch.  It feels good to know what you are putting in your body and where it is coming from.  I’m not going to lie however, sometimes convenience is nice as well. Very nice!  That was my perspective on spice blends, why make my own when I can get them at the store already premixed and ready to roll.  But sometimes I don’t love the premade spice blends.  They may have a little bit too much of something and not enough of something else.  Often times they are chalk full of additives to make them more shelf stable, no one needs that nonsense!

I decided to start with this Spicy Italian Seasoning Blend because I had just made a batch of my Bone Broth Marinara and was going to use it to make my delicious meatball casserole (recipe to come).  That recipe calls for a pound of spicy Italian ground pork sausage and the stuff that is available in the store, even with quality meats, are questionable at best.  Who needs soybean oil in their seasoned ground meats?  NO ONE, that’s who! I wish the rest of the world would get on board with the fact that vegetable oil, canola oil and soybean oil are the devil and need to be exercised from all things food!

The great thing about this blend is you can adjust the spiciness and saltiness to taste.  I prefer both turned up turned up to an 11.  Well really I prefer the spiciness that way, my saltiness I can enjoy at a 8 or 9.  So it is really up to you what level you want to turn your spicy and salty dial.  (Is anyone else having a This is Spinal Tap flashbacks? Good, that was the point!)  Make sure you grab your favorite organic spices and throw this recipe together. This yummy spice blend also ended up in some breakfast sausage patties which will be on the way to the blog soon!
